The Garden of Eden
The Garden of Eden is a really nice swimming hole just a few miles from campus.
It made a great dayhike, though it would've been even better if more people went!
Heather, Kathleen, Haley, Chelsea, and Dylan (note our awesome shirts, too!)
To get there, walk out into Pogonip somewhere... look for Rincon Trail -- the trail that connects to Hwy 9. Follow that until you get to Hwy 9. You can see train tracks from the trail, and those are the train tracks you must follow to get to the Garden of Eden. We were told it was easier to get to the train tracks if we stayed on the trail a while longer (there's an option to cross the road and go right to them) and on the way back we discovered that, yes, indeed, it is a bit easier to get to the train tracks if you stay on the Rincon Trail until it crosses Hwy 9 itself.
Anyway, you walk along the train tracks, crossing some things that are kind of like bridges, but not really, and one spot with nothing but railroad ties to walk on, which are awkwardly spaced. If you reach an actual bridge, you've apparently gone too far, but you should come to a wooden pole with signs on it before then. The pole is on the right, as the river is downhill on your right, and there are some no-diving signs, as well as something that actually says Garden of Eden.
